About

Hi, I’m the Mac Genealogist, this page is intended to be a little home on the web for all of those who through the complexities of birth, marriage or other means find themselves related in some way to the Macs who upon arriving in India more than 200 years ago decided to add the i…

I created this website after I received many requests to share information with other members of the family across the world so primarily this place exists so that you can all get copies of reports to help your own research or to send me information if there’s something missing (probably).

The Macs originated from an area near Loch Lomond and left Scotland in the late 18 century in the shape of William MacFarlane to settle in an India dominated by the East India Company.  As Anglo Indians they thrived in all manner of careers and in all areas of the sub continent although their home base and greatest concentration was always Madras on the south east coast. It was William’s sons George & Matthew who added the i.

From independence onwards like many Anglo Indian families they slowly left India spread to Canada, the US, Australia, South Africa, the Far East and even all the way back to Blighty amongst others and some are still keeping the Mac flag flying back in India!

Please use this site to pose questions about where you fit into the family tree or where someone else does.. I’m always happy to answer questions or share the research I’ve collated with help from relatives far and wide.

I’ve also posted photos of our ancestors, if you have any you’d like to have shared please contact me I’d love to add more so that all the family can see.

I can put you in touch with family OR tell you where you fit into the complex web that is the Mac family.

I started researching our family tree more than ten years ago and love sharing it with anyone who has a similar interest so no question is too big or too small..
